What does your mask really cost per wear?

Single-use masks look cheap until you count the year. Compare the true annual cost of disposables vs a washable mask — for yourself, your family, or a whole team.

Single-use masks

$195 / year

$0.75 per wear · 260 masks used and thrown away per year

Reusable (washable 10×) masks

$140 / year

$0.50 per wear · 7 four-packs per year at $19.99 each

Annual difference
$55 saved

232 / year

Assumptions: one mask per wearing day; reusable figure based on a $19.99 four-pack with each mask hand-washable up to 10 times (40 wears per pack — a conservative count that excludes the first wear before any wash). Prices are estimates for comparison, not quotes.

How the math works

The comparison assumes one mask per wearing day. Disposables are counted at their unit price for every wear. The reusable figure uses the AirPop Light SE retail price of $19.99 per four-pack, with each mask hand-washable up to 10 times — a tested property, giving a conservative 40 wears per pack, or about $0.50 per wear. Adjust the disposable price to match what you actually pay; certified disposables typically run $0.30–$1.50 each.

Cost is only half the equation. Filtration comes from tested standards — KN95 (GB2626) and ASTM F3502-21 define fine-particle filtration benchmarks — and fit determines how much of that tested performance you actually get. See how AirPop filtration is tested →

Common questions

What does cost-per-wear mean for masks?

Cost-per-wear divides what you pay by the number of times you can actually wear the product. A $0.75 disposable mask costs $0.75 per wear because it is discarded after one use. A $19.99 four-pack of reusable masks, with each mask hand-washable up to 10 times, works out to roughly $0.50 per wear — and one pack replaces dozens of single-use masks.

How many times can a reusable mask be washed?

It depends on the design. AirPop Light SE masks are tested to be hand-washable up to 10 times while maintaining filtration performance, which is the assumption this calculator uses. Always follow the specific care instructions for any mask you buy — washability is a tested property, not a universal one.

Is a reusable mask cheaper for a team or workplace?

Usually, and the gap widens with team size and frequency of use. At five wearing days a week, a 25-person team uses about 6,500 disposable masks a year. The same coverage from washable four-packs costs less per wear and dramatically reduces procurement volume and waste handling. For volume pricing, see our bulk orders page.

Do reusable masks filter as well as disposable ones?

Filtration depends on the certification standard, not on whether a mask is reusable. Look for tested standards: KN95 (GB2626) and ASTM F3502-21 both define fine-particle filtration efficiency requirements. A certified reusable mask and a certified disposable meet the same kind of tested benchmark; an uncertified mask of either type offers no tested guarantee.
