A mask filters only the air that passes through it. When the mask is too big for your face, it gaps at the sides of your nose and under your chin, and some of the air you breathe skips the filter. Light SE Youth & Petite is AirPop's small-fit mask. It's built on the Light SE construction, which is certified to ASTM F3502-21 (Intertek), and cut smaller for teens and adults with smaller faces. It comes in packs of four at Target.com.
Who is the Youth & Petite size for?
Pick it by face size. It fits teens and adults with a narrower nose bridge and less distance from nose to chin. The cup and the 360° seal were shaped around face models built from more than 3,000 face scans.
You probably need the smaller size if the standard Light SE:
- rides up toward your lower eyelids, or moves when you talk
- reaches past the bottom of your chin
- lets air out at the sides of your nose when you breathe out
- slides off-centre even after you've adjusted the ear loops
How do I check the fit?
You won't need a tape measure. The first three steps are the fit check printed in every pack; the fourth is one we'd add.
- Put the mask on so it covers your nose, mouth and chin, sitting centred.
- Press the flexible nose bridge along your nose and cheeks, then adjust the ear loops until it feels secure but doesn't pinch.
- Breathe in. The mask should pull in slightly against your face. That light suction tells you the air is coming through the filter, not around the edges.
- Talk for a few seconds. It should stay where you put it.
If air still escapes at the edges of the standard Light SE, try Youth & Petite. If Youth & Petite presses on your nose or finishes above your chin, go back to the standard size.
Wear it on bare skin. Facial hair under the edge lets air around any mask, this one included.
Is there a small N95 mask? How is KN95 different?
Yes, there are N95s in small sizes. If your job or a rule you work under calls for an N95, choose a model listed on NIOSH's Certified Equipment List. AirPop doesn't make N95s, and we don't call our masks N95.
The headline numbers match. N95 adds a government approval of each model; KN95 doesn't.

How do I clean it?
Wipe the outside with an unscented 70% alcohol wipe, then let the mask air-dry somewhere clean and ventilated. That's the method in the pack instructions, and it's the one Intertek used for the 10-cycle test. Don't wear it wet, and keep it in a clean paper bag or container between wears. The pack suggests keeping three to five in rotation.

Who should wear the Youth & Petite size?
Teens and adults with smaller faces. If the standard Light SE gaps at the sides of your nose, reaches past your chin, or slides when you talk, the smaller size is the one to try.
Is a small KN95 the same as a small N95?
No. Both standards set a 95% filtration minimum using salt particles at 85 litres a minute, but N95 is an approval from NIOSH, a US government agency, and KN95 is a Chinese national standard the maker declares. AirPop masks aren't N95s. If you need an N95, pick one from NIOSH's Certified Equipment List.
How do I know if a mask is too big for me?
Breathe in with the mask on. A mask that fits pulls in slightly against your face. If you feel air at the sides of your nose or under your chin instead, it's too big.
How many times can I reuse it?
Each mask holds its filtration for up to 10 cleaning cycles with a 70% alcohol wipe, per Intertek's test of the Light SE construction. That's 40 wears from a pack of four.
